KINTAMPO: Canopy walkway to rake in more revenue

The recent commissioning of the canopy walkway at the Kintampo Waterfalls is hoped to increase revenue for the Kintampo Municipal Assembly.

President Akuffo Addo commissioned the canopy walkway as an additional facility to the waterfalls, and this is expected to increase patronage of the waterfalls.

Municipal Chief Executive for Kintampo, Michael Sarkodie Baffoe told assembly members at the first ordinary meeting of the fourth session of the assembly that the development could raise the estimated cost for each participant between two hundred Ghana cedis (GHC200.00) to about five hundred Ghana Cedis (GHC500.00), and this holds significant potential for additional earning.

The MCE promised to protect the public purse by ensuring value for money in all public transaction and exercising prudence and discipline in fiscal management to meet the aspiration of the people of Kintampo. He also promised to strengthen revenue mobilization administration and plug revenue loopholes and leakages.

Meanwhile, the executive committee has resolved to among others to;

• increase the number of days for the Kintampo market;

• register all landed government properties to avoid litigation; and

• decongest containers dotted around stores at Tamale station.

A number of developmental projects were outlined to be various stages of completion with others completed. Some of which are school buildings, chips compounds, bridges, court complex among others.

The Member of Parliament for Kintampo North Constituency, Kwasi Etu-Bonde, alerted the house about the constitutional amendment on the election of MMDCEs and Assembly Members on partisan lines.

He asked Assembly members to help in educating people in their electoral area. He alluded to revamping rice production and liaising with the government to set up the mango and pineapple processing plant under the government’s “One district, One Factory” policy.
