Vice President commissions Small Town Water Project at Tuna
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has commissioned a small town water project for Tuna and its surrounding communities in the Sawla-Tuna-Kalba district in the Savanna Region.

The project is funded by 4Ward Development West Africa, a private water utility service provider, USAID, Global Communities and WATER4, a nongovernmental organization operating in the Savanna Region.

Mr. Tunawura Daniel Sarfo Amantana thanked the Vice-President for the honor done to the people of Tuna to commission this water project, adding “without water, life is always unbearable since water is life”.

He expressed his humble gratitude on behalf of his people to the NGO for the kind gesture and assured them that the community will take good care of the facility.

Enumerating some challenges affecting his traditional area, the he mentioned the deplorable nature of the Tuna Police Post and the lack of vehicles.

Dr Bawumia who was speaking at the commissioning of a town water project said the successes chalked by the government in providing potable drinking water for rural and urban dwellers has resulted in a reduction of sanitation-related diseases such as cholera.

The Vice President intimated that Ghana has over the last five years not recorded a single case of cholera due to the huge investments made to provide clean drinking water and increasing the overall access to water to 87%, 96% for urban access while rural access stands at 74%.

"We all know that under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, Goal number 6 is a goal for us to attain clean water sanitation for all. In this regard, the government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has had a policy of water for all. This water for all policy has resulted in an investment program of about 740 million dollars in terms of investment in water systems in various towns and communities," he said.
