The newly ICT centre is expected to serve all the schools within the catchment area in Agona Abodom which would be based on a well-planned timetable to guide the participation of the schools in an orderly manner.

Commissioning the Centre, the Minister for Communication and Digitalisation (MoCD), Mrs Ursula Owusu-EKuful (MP), mentioned that, the ministry was collaborating with the Ghana Education Service (GES) to build ICT Centres for all Senior High Schools (SHS) with the aim of empowering students with digital tools that would enhance learning.

She added that the procurement process had already begun to provide 40-seater ICT Labs for about 400 SHS in the country as part of the Girls-In-ICT flagship project.

According to her, the government was seeking donor funding for a stand-alone Educational Technology Unit project and that the GES and Ministry of Education would be in charge of rolling out the digital instructions for the schools so as to guarantee the sustainability of the project.

“There is an ongoing Girls-In-ICT for the Tertiary students, we believe that if you catch them younger and get them interested to have ICT tools at their finger-tips from the Kindergarten levels, they will be at par with their colleagues and peers elsewhere in the world” she noted.

She indicated that a team had been put together, including the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications ( GIFEC) Zonal Manager, Ghana Education Service (GES) IT Directorate and the Assembly to supervise the centre and ensure the ICT centre was used for its intended purpose.

“We believe that with the diverse expertise they bring and being part of the community itself, they will be able to oversee its operations in a sustainable manner” She emphasized.

Touching on Internet Connectivity within Agona Abodom, the Minister assured that GIFEC was implementing the Ghana Rural Telephony and Digital Inclusion Project (GRT&DIP) so as to improve on the internet connectivity across the country.
