Lying second to last on the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) League Table last two years; the District under the watch of the Hon. District Chief Executive, (DCE) Abu Adam has improved to 18 th position out of over 26 Districts in the Northern Region.

According the DCE on assuming office nothing significant had been done by his predecessor during the erstwhile administration, and so been aware of dangers associated to sanitation, he introduced monthly community clean up exercise at all the five market communities in the District.

The market communities he mentioned included; Loagri, Yagaba, Kubori, Kukor and Yizisi. And that through rigorous aware creation, the people were cooperating to make the activity a success.

Also, he played a strong partnership role to the CLTS programme improving the status of the District on the Sanitation League table from abysmal second to last to 18 th position and hoping this year will much more better.

He said so far 12 communities out of the District’s official 36 communities had achieved Open Defecation Free, (ODF) adding that the they had set a target to achieve District wide ODF by 2019.

Also he said the District had recruited some 134 sanitation workers and contracts were awarded for toilets in some six communities, some those include Yagaba, Kubori and Yizisi communities.

The Hon. DCE however lamented at how some toilet facilities provided by World Vision International were left to rot due to negative attitude by some people in the natives and that the Assembly was not relenting on awareness creation to see how all those toilets including some institutional ones could be fully utilized.
