N JUABEN N: SOVTECH showcases talents, crafts
The Social Welfare Vocational/Technical Training Centre has organized its maiden Open Day Celebration to showcase the talent and craft of students in the institution. The ceremony was also held to help erase the notion and correct the image of the school as one for deviants’ juveniles.

Speaking on behalf of the Municipal Chief Executive of New Juaben North Municipal, Hon. Comfort Asante the Municipal Information Officer, Madam Elizabeth Ansaah said Technical and Vocational Education is very significant for the development of every nation. “Through Technical and Vocational Education we are able to acquire the requisite skills for the job market and also develop our talents and potentials,” she said.

She commended the management of the school for their efforts to offer the years and for coming up with this initiative to ensure the success of the institution.



Madam Ansaah said government is investing heavily in infrastructure for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in various parts of the country including; establishment of TVET centres, providing free Technical Vocational Education and Training and upgrading colleges of Education specialized in Technology – all meant to equip the youth with employable skills in the belief that, this is the way to power Ghana into greatness.



She encouraged parents to take interest in Technical Vocational Education Training and encourage their wards to enroll them in such institutions when they discover such talents and potential in them.

She advised the students to take their studies serious in order to improve upon their lives and make their future bright.

The Director of Institutions Department of Social Welfare, Mr. Attiga in his address congratulated the leadership of the centre for the great job they have been doing at the centre over the years and initiating such a programme to create awareness and increase student enrollment in the institution.



He stated the knowledge and skills acquired by trainees in the school place them at the same advantage as other trainees from other institutions in the country.

He urged the leadership of the school to follow up with radio stations and community information centres to help erase the notion that the school is noted to be a school for juvenile delinquents.

The Centre Manager of the school, Dr. Joseph Ekow Gilbert said courses offered in the institution are awarded certificate by the National Vocational Training Institute and National Board for Professional and Technician Examinations.



He urged Nananom, parents and invited guests to help spread the news of the good works they have witnessed in the school to the general public to achieve the aim of eradicating the perception people have of the school.

Present at the occasion was the Chief of Jumapo Nana Oppong Owusu III, Mrs. Salley Mahama Social Welfare Officer for New Juaben North Municipal Assembly, Folkloric Cultural Dancing Group.
