Ga West Assembly elects new Presiding Member

The Ga West Municipal Assembly on Monday, 12th February 2024 had a Special meeting to elect and swear in Mr. Daniel Asumedu as Presiding Member of the Assembly as enshrined in the Local Governance Act, 2016 (ACT 936), Section 17(4).

Mr. Asumedu was the only candidate who filed for nomination to contest the position.

A total number of twenty-seven (27) members voted where 18 members voted yes, 6 voted No and 3 votes were rejected representing two-third majority votes required to become a winner.

Her Ladyship Justice Priscilla Dapaah Mireku swore in the Presiding Member into office. He swore two (2) Oaths; Official Oath and Oath of Secrecy.

The PM in his acceptance speech thanked members of the assembly for the opportunity given him to serve as a Presiding Member and appreciated the engulfing confidence reposed in him.

He assured his colleagues that the welfare of all members, irrespective of one’s political affiliation, is his top most priority and therefore entreated them to work in unity devoid of partisan politics for the progress of the Municipality.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Mr. Clement Wilkinson on his part thanked the Assembly Members for their mandatory role played in fulfillment of the Local Governance Act, Act 936.

The program was attended by Dr. John Kumah Deputy minister of finance, MCD, Her Ladyship Justice Priscilla Dapaah Mireku, Heads of Departments, Assembly Members, Security personnel’s from various security services and Officials from the electoral Commission among others.
