The Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD) Programme is a decentralized National Tree Crop Programme to promote rural economic growth and improve household incomes of rural farmers through the provision of certified improved seedlings, extension services, business support, and regulatory mechanisms.

The Municipal Assembly chose the cultivation of oil-palm of which 16000 palm seedlings were distributed to farmers last, and now it has successfully nursed and grafted 20000 mango seedlings ready for distribution to interested farmers.

The Municipal Chief Executive who doubles as Volta Regional Sustainable Development Goals Champion said he is passionate about the objectives of the programme and has demonstrated this through his effective collaboration with the Municipal Agric Department to achieve this feat.

He said, he is for anything that has the potential of reducing poverty among the people, hence his love for the project which has one of its core objectives as – “eradicating extreme poverty within the municipality”. It is also aimed at ending hunger by ensuring access by all people, in particular, the poor and people in vulnerable situations.
