The exercise which is being supervised by the Electoral Commission is to enable eligible applicants who have attained the ages of eighteen years and above with a sound mind, those who have never registered and citizens who could not register during the previous exercise in 2012 to do so to enable them exercise their franchise in the country’s general elections.

The registration which started in the Asokore Electoral Area has not encounter any hitch according to the registration supervisor, Darlington Annan.

He said the turn up so far is very encouraging pointing out that even though the number of people registering keeps increasing, they were expecting more to come.

Agents from the two major political parties, the NPP and NDC who were present at the Centre acknowledged the peaceful process of the exercise. They described the exercise as encouraging and urged others at home to go and register.

The Information Services Department of the assembly is educating the public on the need to exercise their franchise as Ghanaians and the need for citizens in the various communities to patiently wait for their turn to register. The Information Centres have been tasked to help in the dissemination of this information apart from the ISD van.

All eligible applicants are encouraged to either go along with valid passport, driving license, national identification card and previous ID cards. Citizens who do not have any of these requirements are supposed to go to the Centre with two registered voters as guarantors.
