The cause of the outage according to the District Manager of ECG, Mr. Albert Adjabeng was a fire set by a farmer which extended to the edge of the Afram River thereby affecting the electrical cables underneath the river.

The cables were laid under the River Afram to transmit electricity to the two districts in 1995 during the Rawlings administration.

The two districts however experienced the outage on Wednesday June 21, 2017 when those cables got affected by the fire, thereby slowing down economic activities in the district which for some time now have been enjoying good supply of electricity.

The District Manager has however assured the people of restoration of power as marine engineers in Accra and Koforidua are working around the clock to restore power to the two districts. The destroyed cables are being replaced by new ones and hopefully power would be restored.

The District Chief Executive for Kwahu Afram Plains North, Hon. Samuel Kena has appealed to the people to exercise restraint as this is the first time the district is experiencing power outage in such a magnitude.

He took the opportunity to urge farmers to be cautious and desist from bush burning as one’s carelessness can affect the entire district.

He lauded the team of engineers with the prompt attention being given to the problem.
