The MCE who announced this at a stakeholder consultation meeting ahead of the commencement of the project at Hohoe said capacity building for stakeholders had already begun with planning officers and engineers were undergoing series of training on the project and called for support from all.

The project is part of a World Bank support for the implementation of its Urban Development Action plan 2019-2023 under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Programme (GSCSP), which is intended to improve Urban Management and the Provision of Basic Urban Infrastructure.

Mr. Wahabu Zakari, the Hohoe Municipal Development Planning Officer said the market after completion in 2023, would consist of a two-story building with 200 stores, two large capacity warehouse, 150 sheds with paved floors, a Health and Fire post, a Day-care centre, improved security, and lighting system, and a well-defined drainage system.

Daavi Becky, Secretary of the Market Women Association told the GNA that the Association had asked the Assembly to maintain the current market site while work went on at the new site chosen for the modern market and hoped the appeal would be taken.

She lamented about the state of the old market, which he said lacked good lighting system and security though market tolls had been increased from 50 pesewas to one cedi.

The stakeholders at the meeting included; traders in fruits, vegetables, various foodstuffs, fabrics, shop owners, and representatives from the Municipal Assembly.
