Ho West is the spice district of Volta

Mr Ernest Apaw, District Chief Executive (DCE) of Ho West has observed that the blend of spices in the district could not be found in any other district in the Volta Region, as Ho West is the spice district in the Volta Region. We have the loamiest soil in the region and we have more to offer, the DCE said.

Mr Apaw who was speaking at an Agriculture Fair said it was a good initiative and commended the level of improvement in packaging and customer care.

The Fair was on the theme "Sustainable Investment and Industrial Growth through Trade Promotion", and saw various Municipal and District Assemblies showcasing their investment and tourism potentials.

He said the Kpoeta, Hornuta, Abutia and Aklave areas grew black pepper and other spices in abundance and hinted of efforts by the Assembly to get market for the products.

Mr Apaw said the Assembly was also working on reviving a 60 acre Spanish tea farm, which was cultivated during the era of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, first President of Ghana.

He said the District had the best moringa products, because they were planted in mountainous areas and exposed to less pollution, making them more hygienic.

The District also boasts of coffee, broad beans, and mushroom.

Mr Apaw said Ho West was promoting the cultivation and consumption o nutmeg, locally grown brown rice, which grew well in its valleys.

He said producers were receiving support from the Assembly to improve on packaging, with plans afoot to export the product.

The DCE revealed that four waterfalls in the District would be developed to promote tourism, and that a housing programme for tourists would soon be undertaken, funded by a multimillion Dollar World Bank grant.

Incubator platforms were also provided at the Fair to connect Small and Medium Scale Enterprises with seasoned industry players.
