2023 Hogbetsotso festival to be launched at Anlo-Afiadenyigba on September 7

This year’s Anlo Hogbetsotso Festival is to be officially launched on Thursday, September 7, at Anlo Afiadenyigba.

The launch, which was earlier planned for September 16th in Tema, in the Greater Accra Region, has been rescheduled after the Festival Central Planning Committee met to reconsider some major decisions.

Mr. Silas Aidam, Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Planning committee said, “The new decision was arrived at after the Central Planning Committee met and reconsidered some decisions to make this year’s festival a special one

“We also considered the demands of the people to do this year’s launch at home and the massive readiness of our Chiefs and people of Afiadenyigba.”

Anlo Hogbetsotso Festival, which is in its 61st anniversary have always been launched outside the Volta Region since 2012 despite many calls by natives to get it launched in Anloland, but this year, their demand would be met.

Togbi Kadzahlo IV, Dufia of Anlo-Afiadenyigba, told the GNA "We are very happy the Traditional Council has bestowed this honour on us again, I believe it is because of how well we organized the mini durbar last year that necessitated this call.”

“Though impromptu, I call on all residents of Anlo-Afiadenyigba to help put the community in shape for the launch on Thursday.”

Togbi also admonished the need for peace “But in all, I want to use your medium to plead with all natives and traditional authorities within the State to embrace reconciliation towards a peaceful Anlo, because we have only one Anlo and nothing else.”

In an interview, some residents of Anlo-Afiadenyigba were happy with the festival being launched in the town.

"We are happy Anlo-Afiadenyigba is involved in this year’s festival again, what we did for Mini Durbar last year was remarkable and our chiefs are aware that is why we are honoured again,” one woman said.

“As one of the important towns in Anlo, we will continue to serve in our capacity anytime the State calls on us."

The theme for this year’s Hogbetsotso Festival is “Climate Change, a challenge to lands below sea level: A concern of the Anlo State and stakeholders.”

There would be a ban on drumming and noise making commencing September 10th to October 1st, Mini durbar would be on October 28th at Dzelukofe, Keta, towards the climax on November 4th at Anloga.
