The project which is expected to be completed within 6 months when completed will possibly become Private –Public Partnership (PPP) between the Assembly and the Melcom Group of Companies Ghana.

Mr. Ishmeal Ashitey in his address said His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana is focused on health promotion and prevention through the provision of primary health care and the National Health Insurance Scheme to achieve universal health coverage. Hence the direction of all MMDA’S to secure lands for the construction of district hospitals.

He urged all stakeholders, especially contractors to act with speed to do a good job to its successful completion.

The DCE indicated that the land which is sited near ARS junction covers 8 acres but 4 acres had been made available for the hospital project, an office for the Assembly, a shopping mall, lockable shops and a car park to make the area a business hub. The remaining 4 acres is reserved for future development.

He noted that the shopping mall, the lockable shops and the car park is a BOT (Build, Operate Transfer) project. Meaning the investor after putting up these facilities will operate it for a number of years to recoup their investment after which the Assembly would take over the facility. The 10 bed government hospital and the office are being done for the Assembly at no cost to the assembly as part of social corporate responsibilities of the investor.

Mr. Francis Sam, Group General Manager of Melcom Group of Companies said they are happy about the partnership and hope to work for the good intent of the project adding that Melcom has a Social Responsibility Agenda in areas of education, health, and social so such a project is a way of fulfilling its corporate social responsibilities.
