Ghana national scholarship secretariat launches decentralisation system
The Ghana National Scholarship Secretariat has launched the maiden edition of decentralising the National Scholarships to the district level.

The launching which was held at the Western Regional capital- Sekondi- Takoradi was under the theme: '' Blueprint to Free Meritorious Tertiary Education in Ghana.”

Chairman of the occasion, Nana Kwabena Nketia V, Omanhene of Essikado traditional area, commended President Akuffo Addo for his vision to decentralised the national scholarship to the districts level to benefit everyone in the country. He then appeal to the various MMDCEs not to politicize the selection and interview of the applicants.

The Registrar of the scholarship secretariat, Mr. Kingsley Agyemang stressed that, the decentralisation system is one of the initiatives of the President, who wants every Ghanaian child to get quality tertiary education, irrespective of your social, religious or political background.

'' The selection of the beneficiaries was structured in such a way that, the MCE been the Chairman of the selection committee, two representatives from the scholarship secretariat, representatives from Ghana Education Service and representatives from the traditional council in the district, did both the selection and the interview,'' said the Registrar.

Mr. Agyemang who presented the cheques to the various beneficiaries in all the MMDAs in both the Western Region and Western North said, the initial amount been approved by the parliament was GHC30m and it was disbursed as, GHC100,000 for Metropolitan Assemblies, GHC 80,000 for Municipal Assemblies and GHC60,000 for District Assemblies.

The Deputy Minister of Education, Hon. Kwabena Okyere Darko- Mensah, also advised the beneficiaries to take advantage of the scheme to further their education to the highest level. He also urged them to improve on their performance since this award is given based on your academic strength.

Meanwhile the Dean of MMDCEs in the two Western Regions, Hon. Wilson Arthur, Wassa East DCE, on behalf of his colleagues thanked the President and the scholarship Secretariat for this unprecedented opportunity and promised to monitor and report every situation.
