Kintampo North Municipal Assembly meets the press

The Kintampo Municipal Assembly has taken various steps to improve security in the municipality.

The Municipal Chie Executive, Michael Sarkodie Baffoe disclosed that two police stations are at various stages of completion at New Longoro and Portor, while 7 security check points have been constructed to curb robbery on main roads and highways.

There is also the installation of 250 sets of security lights, ongoing construction of a court complex, and also support for the maintenance of police vehicles in an effort to ensure the safety of residents in the municipality.

The MCE who was addressing the media and the general public at the Meet the Press series organized by the assembly said the government has done a lot of work in the various sectors to ameliorate the suffering of its citizens in the district and the country as a whole.

According to him, under the Planting for Food and Jobs (PJF) programme, fertilizer subsidy and credit purchase to farmers and improved seedlings were made available as well as chemicals. These according to him boosted food production, created employment and increased the income of farmers and all in the value chain.

He also disclosed that a site has been acquired at Habitant, a suburb of Kintampo for a mango processing plant to be set up under the 1 district, 1 factory initiative, and assured work will start soon on the project.

With regards to NABCO, Mr. Sarkodie indicated that, a total of 431 people were engage in the 7 (seven) modules in the municipality who have added to improved academic performance, service to deprived communities, technical support to Planting for Food and Jobs, support in revenue mobilization, support in health delivery and job creation.

The Free Senior High School initiative was highly visible in the municipality, he said. One hot meal is provided to day-students, double track is being employed to aid structural challenged and graduates have been employed under the initiative, the Municipal Chief Executive added.

A total 1,301 have enrolled into the two government Senior High Schools in the municipality, he said.

He also added that as part of the constituency’s share of the $1 million per constituency a 3-unit classroom is being put up at Kadelso and 600 furniture supplied to selected schools.

HEALTH

The health sector, he noted witnessed the completion of CHPS compounds at Dwere-Gomboi, and Kurawura Akura, a pregnancy school donated by Dr. David Mensah, the construction of the 2nd floor with 2-unit theatre at the Kintampo Municipal Hospital, horticulture and walkway at the Municipal hospital as well as the supply of medical equipment including incubators.

The tourism sector is to see the construction of two sets of stairways with two entry points, a canopy walkway, upgraded entrance and zip line at the Kintampo waterfalls.

EDUCATION

Education being the backbone of every society was certainly not left out. The sector recorded the construction of an ultra-modern library, 3-unit classroom rehabilitated at Bilbador, the supply of furniture, construction of 6-unit classroom block for the girls model school, rehabilitation of classrooms at Banantwe and the construction of Kindergarten at Soronuase for Darul Hadith.

ROADS

Roads in the Municipality have also received a facelift with the reshaping and gravelling of 18.5km Ntankoro-Kunsu, constriction of Sermel bridge at New Longoro, a metal bridge over river Wurukwan at DawaDawa and the constriction of 4 roundabouts in the Kintampo township.

GOVERNANCE

Mr. Sarkodie also disclosed that habitation work has gone on at administration block of the Kintampo Municipal Assembly, Office block for urban roads department, Immigration Service, and NABCO, the MCE bungalow, the Municipal Coordinating Director’s bungalow, and the Municipal Engineer’s bungalow. Supply of 67 motorbikes to assembly members as in his editorial to the administrative structure of the municipality.

SPORTS

Shaping and nurturing talent under sports has led to the provision of an inner perimeter fence for the town park with a dressing room and jerseys and sporting equipment provided to schools, the MCE noted under youth and sports.

Other projects include mechanized boreholes under construction at Kunsu, Kaaka and Busuama, construction of 20 unit water closet toilet at Gulumpe and Kintampo. He mentioned some donations made to artisans and people living with disabilities.

Questions from the media centred around sanitation , town roads, education, development projects and what Kintampo stands to again as part of the creation of the Bono East Region with a call for both the Regional Health Directorate and Regional Hospital to be situated in Kintampo.
