The MCE addressing a town hall meeting organized by the assembly noted that improvement of economic activities is linked to improvement of living standards, thus development of market infrastructure which results in local economic development must be given priority.

It is in this light that he praised the redevelopment of the Asawase market as effort in the right direction though the shops could not suffice the demand.

The absence of major markets in the municipality he stated does not only adversely affect IGF of the assembly, but also give rise to erection of temporary structures along streets and any little space that anyone can find, and this mares the beauty of the municipality.

He announced that the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development and Ministry of Finance have already engaged a consultant who is currently undertaking a feasibility study on the project.

In a related development, the MCE announced that plans are afoot to develop the Joe Boy and Akwatialine stations into modern transport terminals to their fitting status.

He stated that the station and the entire area serves as the central business district of the municipality, considering the daily volume of human and vehicular traffic, but the state in which the station finds itself leaves much to be desired, “the chaotic way vehicles are parked, the impunity with which the traders display their wares on the street, the filth makes one wonder whether it is part of the municipality.

The MCE therefore called for support from all stakeholders towards this worthy course.
