The distribution of the over 200 thousand free cocoa seedlings by the district assembly has become necessary because of destructions to cocoa farms through illegal mining activities, popularly known as galamsey.

A lot of farmers are reported to have lost their farmlands due to the effects of galamsey in the area, and this not only threatens their livelihoods but also the economy of the district as well.

The District Chief Executive of the area, Yaw Dansoman has indicated in an interview with Ghanadistricts.com that, over 4,000 farmers benefitted from the initiative.

He further added that fertilizer was also distributed to the farmers to aid their work for proper farming and more harvest, adding that the assembly has employed about 15 farmers who are being monitored and supervised by the Agriculture officers.

He explained that the farmers were employed in order for the assembly to improve on their revenue.

The farmers and beneficiaries expressed their joy and their sincere gratitude to the DCE and officials for their tremendous support.
