The Ghana Armed Forces, Ghana National Service and the Nabco team, joined Personnel from the Ghana Police Service, Immigration Service, Ghana Fire Service, and Ghana Prisons Service came together to embark on this exercise.

Other agencies and groups such as the Assembly Members of the Municipality, staff of the Assembly, businessmen and women, political party faithful’s, traditional leaders within the Municipality, taxi drivers and the Zoomlion also rolled unto the exercise.

As usual, the I.S.D team patrolled through the Municipality and cautioned all shops in and around the Central Business District who had opened their shops to close them for the commencement of the exercise. Participants were grouped and given the necessary tools and equipment to undertake and monitor the exercise.

The streets within the Municipality were swept and some gutters were distilled to give way for the rains. With full support from the Ghana Fire Service, some choked gutters were flashed with water pump pressures to allow free flow of the rains to curb flooding in the municipality.

Filth collection and disposure were done on time with the help of two (2) tipper trucks from the association of tipper trucks and the Zoomlion garbage trucks. Some working tools and equipment of absented individuals such as meat grills and show cases were grasped by the sanitation authority of the Municipal Assembly.

The M.C.E Hon Isaac Appaw Gyasi emphasized that, sanitation and flood issues has become a burden on the country and ever since this exercise started, he has seen a lot of improvement in the Municipality. He stated that, the Assembly cannot fight this battle alone but rather urge the citizenry to participate in the upcoming exercises ahead. Mr. Appaw-Gyasi further warned the citizenry to desist from any character that will seem to jeopardize the activity of the sanitation court.

Suggestions from participants
• An interview with a group of Police Officers at the Koforidua Central Police station stated that, the Assembly is doing well in tackling sanitation issues in the Municipality but it has neglected their concerns of cemented gutter guards at their exit point. They added that, they have written to the Assembly a number of times but their issues and concerns have not been attended to.

• Auntie Boatemaa, a petty trader on the Y&K – Pepsi lane advised the Assembly to take action against those who exempt themselves from the monthly cleanup exercise to ensure more people get involved for a better result.

• Others also called for more equipment to facilitate the clean-up.
