The Ellembelle District Director of Education Reverend Mrs. Elizabeth Akuoku, has lauded the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Mr. Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah for his intervention in education delivery.

She noted that there had been a dramatic improvement in education, especially at the basic level since the MP initiated some interventions in 2009.

Rev. Mrs Akuoku was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Nroful on Thursday.

She said the annual mock examinations organized by the MP and the District Assembly in the area had improved the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) score over the past few years.

The District scored 75.6 per cent in the BECE results last year, which was a remarkable improvement over the previous years.

The District Director of Education also mentioned other interventions by Mr. Kofi Buah as the provision of junior graphic newspapers to pupils in basic schools, to be abreast with issues of national importance.

She said the MP has also formed debating clubs in second cycle institutions to engender intellectual discourse on some pertinent issues in society and to enable students to express their candid opinions about them in the formulation of national policies.

In the area of sports, Rev. Akuoku said the MP has been providing jerseys to schools to promote sporting activities.

In addition, Mr. Buah has also established ICT centres in selected schools to enhance research work and foster computer literacy.

The District Examinations Coordinator, Nana Nyamekeh Fofole said it had organized two mock examinations for previous BECE candidates and that a third one will be organized this year also.

Nana Fofole, who is also the chief of Ambainu, was confident that the pupils will do well in the examinations and appealed to the candidates to eschew all forms of irregularities during the examination since they have been adequately prepared.
