Five babies, two males and three females were recorded on Christmas Day at the Tamale Central Hospital alone.

The Tamale West Hospital meanwhile recorded no birth as at 1000 hours when the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited there.

Ms Zenabu Salifu, Midwifery Officer in charge of the Tamale Central Hospital said the first delivery, a male, was recorded at 0215 hours while the fifth delivery, a female occurred at 0936 hours.

She said the babies and their mothers are all in good condition.

At the Tamale West Hospital, Madam Amina Bukari said this year the hospital recorded zero birth on Christmas Day but explained that the two pregnant women were on admission awaiting delivery.

She said the hospital, however, recorded two deliveries on Christmas Eve.

Ms Salifu said the death of Dr Obeng Adjei, the Hospital’s Doctor was also impacting negatively on Out Patient Department (OPD) attendance.

"Probably, that is why pregnant women are not coming to deliver," she said and used the occasion to bid farewell to Dr Adjei, who according to the authorities at the hospital had lost a dedicated personality.
