The Kwahu East District Assembly is to commit a greater percentage of its resources to provide educational infrastructure, furniture, exercise books and qualified teachers to improve the standard of education in the area.

The measure is to supplement Government’s efforts to educate the nation’s children to eradicate the high illiteracy rate, poverty and unemployment in the country.

The District Chief Executive, Mr Samuel Asamoah said this when he presented 50 dual desks worth GH¢ 2,250 to the Anglican Primary School at Abetifi.

He attributed the high unemployment rate and poverty among the people to illiteracy and noted that if people had acquired some kind of formal or informal education they could have used it to create their own employment to generate income to alleviate poverty.

Mr Asamoah said the Assembly would soon purchase more dual desks and teachers’ tables and chairs for distribution to basic schools in the District and urged the school authorities to take good care of the items.

Receiving the desks on behalf of the school, the Chief of Abetifi, Nana Asiedu Agyemang III thanked the Assembly for the gesture and appealed for similar assistance to other schools in the District.
