Students receive 2000 sanitary pads
The District Chief Executive for Agona East Mrs. Janet Odei Paintsil has distributed more than 2000 sanitary pads to girls in basic schools in the district.

The beneficiary schools were Duabone Basic School, Aboano, Kwasikum among others.

Addressing the students, the DCE said many of the girls had stopped schooling due to the negative social norms surrounding menstrual hygiene management.


According to her, the gesture was to help young girls meet some of their needs as they went through their menstrual cycle, especially in the rural communities where they could not afford the sanitary pads and has to stay away from school during menstruation.

Some girls in the area had dropped out of school and also got pregnant in the district because of lack of sanitary pads.


In addition, the girls were taken through steps on how to put on their pads and also menstrual hygiene management.

She assured that this distribution of pads would continue every two months to enable them achieve their objectives, particularly with the distribution of sanitary materials to girls in the various basic schools.


The DCE added that, God’s great gift to mankind was menstruation without which it was impossible to produce, and appealed to young girls to take good care of themselves by observing personal hygiene.

She therefore appealed to parents and guardians to assist the girl-child practice personal hygiene during menstruation.
