Prestea Huni-Valley Assembly hands over keys to Petepom Palace

The Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly has handed over keys of the newly constructed palace to the Chief and Elders of Petepom Divisional Council.

This was done to complete a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Assembly and the Petepom Divisional Council when the Divisional Council was leasing a land to the Assembly some years ago for the construction of its District Assembly Block.

The building was started by the previous government but was not established as per the recommendation of the Divisional Council.

Presenting the keys, the Municipal Chief Executive of Prestea Huni-Valley Municipal Assembly, Mr. Mozart Kweku Owuh said, one week after he was appointed as the MCE, the Chief and the elders of Petepom wrote a letter to him threatening to go on demonstration because the previous government did not fulfill their part of the agreement signed.

He said, the agreement was that, the Chief and the Elders will allocate a parcel of land to the Assembly for the construction of the Assembly block and bungalows whiles the Assembly in return will also build the palace for the Petepom community.

He emphasized that the funding for the project was from the Minerals Development fund (MDF) which the approval is not done by the MCE or the Assembly but the right authority, so when the approval came the Assembly did not felt reluctant but rather embarked on the project and did what will befit a divisional palace.

According to Mr. Owuh, the finishing stage of the palace was done by providing the needed facilities such as water, tiling of the rooms, roofing the court of the palace, constructing a security fence wall, constructing a car park shed and providing electricity with fixed meter.

The MCE however commended the Chief and the Elders as well as the community members for their corporate support rendered to the contractor and the workers as well.

Receiving the keys, the Chief of Petepom, Nana Kwaku Appiah II said the previous government made a statement that the project has been completed and handed over to the Chief which was not a true statement, that was why a letter was written to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) confronting him on the said project..

Nana Kwaku Appiah II on behalf of the elders and the entire community thanked the MCE and the Assembly for such edifice.
