The project is aimed at increasing citizens’ participation in the planning and budgeting processes of Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

It was on the theme:” Enhancing Civil Society Effectiveness in local governance through Dialogue”

The participants included chiefs, assembly members, head of departments, opinion leaders, the disabled among others.

In a welcome address, the Presiding Member of the assembly, Hon. Patrick Kwaku Frimpong who represented the DCE, Hon. Yaw Danso, said the meeting was to provide a platform for the duty bearers in the Bosome Freho District Assembly to engage the citizenry in a discussion on issues affecting the people and the development of the area.

He said it was also to offer the officials the opportunity to clear any misconception about their jobs and performances.

Mr. Eric Anarfi, the planning officer and Mr. Yeboah Kodie, the Budget of the Bosome Freho District who presented the budgeting highlights to the people, charged them to resolve to dialogue with the assembly than peddling falsehood. They indicated that the assembly was ever ready to account for every pesewa that comes into its coffers and appealed to the people to assist the assembly to generate more revenue by ensuring regular payment of their taxes.

They said local administrators were prepared to put in place effective mechanisms that would factor their concerns in decision making regarding resource distribution, its availability and service delivery.

Answering a question why projects are not put together within a particular period, Mr. Anarfi said the assembly take priorities into consideration based on funds available and assured the people that the assembly has resolved to use its share of the District Development Facility (DDF) Common Fund, Internally Generated Funds (IGF), and other funds to carry out some important social and economic infrastructure in selected communities in the district. .

The planning officer also assured persons with disability that the assembly has made funds available to cater for their needs in the 2017 budget.
