KWABRE E: Planning Committee of Kwabre Festival inaugurated
A 13 - member planning committee has been inaugurated at Mamponteng to plan the maiden Kwabre Festival which will be celebrated every year.

The members are Hon. Nana Osei Asibey Bonsu (District Chief Executive), Hon. Kwame Acheampong (Chairman Tourism Sub Committee), Mr. Stephen Anderson (District Cultural Officer), Mr. Francis Yara (Headmaster), Ohene Annor (Facilitator), Mr. Anthony Kusi and Mr. Kwaku Kyei (both of Dawadawa Consult).

The others are Mr. Osei Owusu Bempah (Administrator of St. Peter’s Hospital –Koforidua), Nana Osei Owusu Ansah (Nana Osei Owusu Ansah and Associate), Dr. Kwaku Oteng (Angel Group of Companies), Nana Wadie Assim (Adwumakasehene), Nana Kyere Akenten (Manpontenghemaa) and Hon. Francisca Oteng Mensah (Member of Parliament for Kwabre East).




Inaugurating the committee, the District Chief Executive, Hon. Nana Osei Asibey Bonsu said the Kwabre Festival has become necessary due to the fact that the district is gradually losing its identity. He added that there are many potential tourism activities in the district that can be exploited and the Kwabre festival will seek to achieve that.




“The identity of the Kwabre people is on our craftsmanship and dressing. We are identified by our rich kente, adinkra designs and akuaba/stool carvings. About 60% of the adult population of the Kwabre area is predominantly engaged in traditional kente weaving, adinkra designing and wood carving” he said.

He revealed that the Annual Kwabre Festival will bring together all citizen and friends of Kwabre every year to deliberate on how to keep the common heritage and identity of the Kwabre people.

The festival will also afford the citizens home and abroad the opportunity to pool resources to bring more developmental projects to the district to augment that of the government. Market will also be sourced for the kente/adinkra/akuaba a tourist products in Ghana and Abroad.




Hon. Asibey Bonsu added that “the occasion will also be used to create a platform for government officials, traditional rulers and prominent citizens of Kwabre to interact and deliberate on developmental needs and strategies to address them’’.

Some of the notable persons expected to join the large army of inhabitants of Kwabre home and abroad include Mr. John Owusu Afriyie (Sir John) of the New Patriotic Party. Mr. Raphael Tuffour, former Controller and Accountant General Department, Mr. Kwame Peprah, former Finance Minister, former Members Parliament and traditional leaders.



The chairman for the occasion, Nana Sprempeh III, Kasaamhene applauded the DCE for the initiative and prayed for more blessings on him to get more wisdom to come out with more innovative ideas.


He also congratulated the members and encouraged them to give off their best to make the dream a reality. He advised that they should do more consultation from people in order to get the opinion of many citizens to make the festival a success.





Ohene Annor who spoke on behalf of the committee thanked the District Chief Executive and the people of Kwabre for the honour done them to serve on the planning committee. They promised to work assiduously to make the dream a reality.

He also called for support from all and Sundry to make their work easier.
