SONA 19: I’m mindful of next generation and not next election- Pres
President Nana Akufo-Addo has reiterated his intentions to roll out solid policies to help improve the country's current economic situations, insisting that his expectations exceeds winning the next general election.

"We know election years will come around, and there will be pressure on government to splurge, and persuasive arguments will be made that you have to stay in government to be able to implement your programmes. However, I am bent on running a responsible administration, mindful of the next generation, and not, merely, the next election", the president said.

President stated this when delivering his State of the Nation Address to Parliament, today 21 February, 2019.

This is the third time the President has appeared before Parliament to account to Ghanaians after his assumption of office in January, 2019.

Touching on some key economic indications, the President noted that inflation had dropped significantly from 15.4% at the end of 2016 to 9% as January this year.

Interest rates, he added are declining, adding that" the Bank of Ghana Monetary policy rate."

"Our trade balance account, for the first time in more than a decade, recorded a surplus in 2017, and is expected to remian surplus", the President added.

He noted that his administration is bent on instituting and maintaining the discipline and legal frame work to help bring progress to the nation.
