Tano South marks 62nd Independence Day
The Municipal Chief Executive of Tano South Municipal Assembly, Collins Offinam Takyi, has called on Ghanaians to strive for peaceful co-existence for development.

He noted, Ghana cannot achieve its expected development without peace and unity and informed all and sundry to come together as one people with one common destiny to support government to implement its policies and programmes to help improve the living standard of the people.

He said peace and unity existed among the older generation and for that matter, they were able to work together as one people to achieve Ghana’s independence and urged younger generation to desist from things which can cause distraction to the Nation’s peace.

He gave the admonishment at the 62nd Independence Anniversary celebration of the Country in the Tano South Municipality on the theme: ‘’Celebrating Peace and Unity’’.

Mr. Takyi said since His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his government assumed office they have been able to introduce a number of intervention programmes and policies at the various sectors of the economy to improve the living standard of the people.

He stressed that government has also introduced free senior high school policy of which the policy has helped to increase enrolment figures in the second cycle schools and also relief financial constraints on some parents. He stressed that government has put more resources into educational sector with the aim to improve the living conditions of the younger generation and informed students to take their learning seriously so as to make them become the good future leaders.



Takyi said government has outlined various intervention programmes, activities and policies in its 2019 budget statement and he hopes if all of them are implemented by government they will go a long way to make Ghana develops and used the day to catalogue some of the achievements of the Tano South Municipal Assembly.

Exercise books, certificates, mathematical sets were presented to all participating schools whilst award of prizes was also given to the best performing schools at primary, JHS and 2nd cycle institutions.

Nana Awuah Boadi, the Bechem Nifahene who spoke on behalf of Nana Fosu Gyeabour Akoto II, the Omanhene of Bechem Traditional Area and chairman of the programme thanked the committee for burning candle in the night to make the Municipality celebrates its 62nd Independence Day Anniversary and call on committee to be more proactive to ensure the ensuing year’s programme will commence on timely manner to avoid keeping school children in scorching sun.
