62nd Independence Day celebrated in Weija-Gbawe
The Weija-Gbawe Municipality on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, held its maiden Independence Day Celebration.

The colourful event came off on the New Gbawe Cluster of Schools Park.

The theme for this year's celebration is, "Celebrating Peace and Unity".

The Special Guest of Honour was the Member of Parliament (MP) for the Weija-Gbawe Constituency and Deputy Minister for Health, Hon Tina Naa Ayele Mensah.

Fifteen contingents of thirty-two students each were on parade.



In the Municipal Education Director's welcome address, read on her behalf by Rev. Mrs Lydia Anim Nketiah, headmistress of the Ngleshie Amanfrom Senior High School, she hoped the celebrations would be a success and wished all well.

Children from St. Joseph the worker Catholic School at Weija delivered the Children's Message to the President of the Republic of Ghana. The message was received by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Weija-Gbawe Municipal Assembly, Hon Patrick Kwesi Brako Kumor.

The Special Guest of Honour , Hon Tina Mensah (MP), in a brief statement asked all gathered to come together to move the nation forward because in unity, lies strength.



Drum appellation and recitals by Caleb Owusu and Priscilla Acolatse preceded the Municipal Chief Executive's speech.

Hon Patrick Kumor (MCE), in his speech said it's imperative to take a look at the past, celebrate our success, correct our mistakes and move ahead with a united front to combat the challenges ahead.

Touching on the theme, he said it consolidatesthe success made in achieving peace and unity and emphasizing the fact that Ghana would continue to be a beacon of hope for Africa.

The MCE expressed deep gratitude to all those working hard to promote and preserve our heritage and identity for generations unborn.



He touched on Government projects, programmes, initiatives and interventions like the NABCO and the 'Youth In Agriculture'.

Finally, Hon Kumor commended the organisers, teachers, participating schools and all dignitaries present for making the occasion a huge success.

The MP and the MCE, commended three teachers for their exemplary attitude during the march past.
