AMA gives January 8 eviction notice to illegal hawkers, traders
The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has given a January, 8 ultimatum to all hawkers, traders who are currently plying their trade at unauthorized spaces within the municipality to vacate or face eviction.

A statement dated January, 2 and signed by the Metro Coordinating Director, Samayeh-Dartey on behalf of the AMA Mayor urged hawkers, traders who have encroached on pavements, footbridges, open spaces and ceremonial routes to leave such places before January, 8, 2018 because the assembly will conduct a decongestion exercise to rid the metropolis of their activities.

According to the statement, the activities of such illegal occupants are contributing factors to the filth that has engulfed the city and goes contrary to provisions of the AMA Hawkers bye-laws of 2011 and section 117 (1) of the Road Traffic regulations, 2012 ( LI, 2180), which are punishable by law.

The statement also cautioned persons or groups who have illegally occupied government reserved Lands to vacate with immediate effect or face eviction.

The decongestion exercise which is expected to be spearheaded by the Metropolitan Security Committee will focus on areas such as the central business District, Kaneshie market area, N1 Highway (Malam to Achimota stretch), Darkuman-Kokompe, Odorkor-Kwashieman road. Nima Highway. Agbogbloshie and Kwame Nkrumah interchange and its environs.

The statement concluded by urging the general public to support the decongestion exercise to make Accra a better place for all to live and love.
