Accra Mayor and Sanitation and Water Resources Minister visit transfer station
Minister for Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah together with the Mayor of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Adjei Sowah (AMA) visited a refuse transfer station in Accra.

As at the time of visit there was sorting going on where plastic products, paper and metallic substance are separated from the main refuse before it is disposed.

In the sector Minister’s interaction with mostly young men at the transfer station on the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital road, they indicated to the Minister that by-products like plastics from the refuse, papers and metallic objects are separated from the main bola and sold for money.

The Mayor of Accra explained to the Minster that females also engage in the sorting out at the transfer station. This came to light when the Minister wanted to know if females are also engaged with the sorting out of refuse.



Mr. Adjei Sowah further told the Minister that waste collectors who use tricycle have been given identifications cards, those who misconduct themselves by dropping refuse on the street are punished for a week by preventing the owners from work for two or three weeks.

The Minister on her part urged the Mayor to also adopt the process of taking monies from offenders.
