Gomoa W: Ankamu Market revamped
Ankamu market in the Gomoa West District of the Central Region has been revamped for trading after it was abandoned for twenty years.

Wednesday has been declared the market day, and with the help of Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU ), the lorry station will be moved to the market every Wednesday to ease transportation since there will be huge patronage.

The market was officially opened by the District Chief Executive, (DCE) Mr. Bismark Baisie Nkum.

Addressing the traders, the DCE, Mr Baisie Nkum assured the general public of his commitment to ensure that the market is working and also charged everyone to do their very best to help sustain it.

“The market is for Gomoa, as such all must insure that Gomoa becomes a very serious market hub in the country because the market is strategically located at where everyone passes so if we leave it unattended to, it will be a waste of money in the bush,” he stated.



More so, the market is on a highway, therefore the road safety commission has also built an emergency response centre at the market to cater for any accident that may occur.

Mr Baisie Nkum additionally said, the National Fire Service is locating their office to the market center to provide security as well as curbing the menace of fire outbreaks in the markets not forgetting the National Ambulance Services which will also on hand.

The police service will also be providing security to prevent robbery attacks during the market days.

The occasion was chaired by the Chief of Ankamu, Nana Ankamu Otabil and the queen mother Nana Oteeba II of Ankamu on which soil the market is situated.



The Paramount Queen Mother of Gomoa Akyempim Traditional council was the special guest of honor.

Other chiefs and queen mothers from all the communities in Gomoa west were also present.

The occasion also brought together a lot of dignitaries, from different departments in the district.
