Sixteen (16) hard working farmers were honoured.

The overall District best farmer went to a 69, year old farmer Mr Isaac Ofosu Otu from Abom near Pakyi No 1.

Speaking at the function the District Chief Executive for Amansie West, Mr William Bediako Asante said as a nation, we cannot physically honour all Ghanaian farmers at one big gathering but rather select few deserving and hardworking individuals. He said this year’s theme: “Farming for food and Jobs" demonstrates the government's renewed commitment in making the Agricultural sector take a center stage in transforming the economy. It is in this recognition that has induced the government to continue to support agriculture in all forms.

The District Director of Agriculture Mr Edward Boamah in his remarks said food should be in sustainable production, high quality and nutritious, easy access to obtain, affordable and if processed in hygienic condition and attractively packaged.

He said galamsey has come to stay with us, but is posing serious threat to food security destroying the fertile wetlands, water bodies and environment which used to support rice, vegetables and oil palm. By this, he appealed to the security agencies to help the President fight the canker.

The chief of Manso Akropong, Nana Odei Kwame Nketia III, commended farmers for their hard work in producing to feed Ghanaians and industries, and urged them to keep it up.

He appealed to the district Assembly to rehabilitate their market center to serve the surrounding communities.
