Black Queens pay courtesy call on B/A Regional Minister
The Black Queens of Ghana has paid a courtesy call on the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Mr. Evans Opoku Bobie as part of their Regional of Ghana to seek support, blessings and show their readiness as well as whip up Ghanaians’ interest ahead of the 2018 Women African Cup of Nations (AFCON) to be hosted by Ghana.

The Team also paid similar call to the Omanhene of Sunyani Traditional area, Nana Bosomah Asor-Nkrawiri

The 21 Women Squad was led by the Head Coach Bahiru Hayford, the Technical Team Coordinator Ms. Evelyn Nsiah Asare and members of the technical team

Mr. Evans Opoku Bobie, the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Asunafo North in address urged the team to ‘host and win’ the Women AFCON 2018 here in Ghana. He said they should be focused with determination and perseverance and uphold discipline in every sphere of their endeavour, for they can will succeed.


He underscored the numerous contributions Sports has made in the development of the country emphasizing that Football greatly marketed Ghana globally with special reference to Football legends such as Abedi Pele, Tony Yeboah, Michael Essien, Andre Dede Ayew, amongst others as inspiration for them and all upcoming footballers.

The Minister on behalf of the Brong Ahafo Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) the traditional authority and the people in the region as a whole, pledged and assured the team of the people’s unflinching support for them, not only just to host the Women AFCON 2018 but also win the cup. The Minister noted that three (3) countries would be selected for World Cup and he was sure the Black Queens would qualify.

The Minister and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Sunyani Madam Dr. Evelyn Ama Kumi Richardson led the team and officials to pay courtesy call of the Omanhene of Sunyani Traditional Area Nana Bosomah Asor-Nkrawiri II and the Council of Chiefs and Elders.



The Omanhene commended the players for their zeal, commitment and dedication to serve Ghana as a demonstration of patriotism.

He noted that the popularity of Ghana in the international scene is through Football, citing the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa as a classical example where all African nations were in support of Ghana to win the cup when Team Ghana was the only surviving team to the quarter finals.

Nana Bosomah rallied support for the team and also pledged same on behalf of the people of the area, adding that the nation would be much proud to host and win the tournament and wish them the very best of luck.



The Head Coach Bashiru Hayford appealed passionately for all forms of support to boost the morale of the team and its upkeep. The team in the evening later played a friendly March against the Prison Ladies in Sunyani which they won 5-1. The Regional Minister in the evening hosted them with a special dinner at his Residency.

The Black Queens would head to the Northern region as part of their regional tour to seek support and blessings to win Women AFCON 2018.
