Deputy Eastern Regional Minister confers with Assembly staff
The Deputy Eastern Regional Minister; Samuel Nuertey Ayettey last Friday made a familiarization visit to the staff and management of the New Juaben South Municipal Assembly to have a first-hand information as to how government flagship programme are faring.

The occasion also gave the Deputy Regional Minister the opportunity to know the challenges confronting the policy and report back to the government.

He further encouraged every citizen to be punctual, accountable and rally behind the government so that a lot of developmental projects would be sent to the door steps of the various communities.

Answering questions from the Deputy Minister as to how the Free SHS policy was been implemented and Monitored within the Municipality, the New Juaben South Municipal Chief Executive, Isaac Appaw-Gyasi stated categorically that the Assembly has instituted a monitoring team to visit some schools within the Municipality and report back to management.

Upon their visit to the schools, the MCE said most of the schools lacked school chairs & desks and other infrastructure. He added, base on these, the Assembly is in the process of providing thousand (1000) classroom chairs and desks which would help ease pressure and boost their studies.



Touching on One District One Factory, Mr. Appaw-Gyasi explained that, someone has come with a proposal to build a furniture and Garment factory at the timber market area, therefore they are working on it.

On Sanitation, the Environmental Health Officer said that, Zoomlion has been given the mandate to ensure that the Municipality is clean and the Assembly is also responsible for public education and enforcement of rules and regulation. The Assembly has twenty-eight (28) sanitary sites and thirty four (34) containers.

He further explained some challenges being faced by the Environmental Health Department, saying Zoomlion lack labour, there is also regular breakdown of their vehicles and workers are not being paid. So measures that has been taken to address some of these issues are that, an interview has been conducted to recruit forty (40) labourers to help public cleansing.



He said further that the Assembly has arranged with the Nations Builders Corps (NABCO) to provide them about fifty (50) trainees to work with the Environmental Health as well as twenty (20) people from the Youth Employment Agency. The Municipal Chief Executive stressed on the general cleaning that will be taking place every Saturday before the celebration of the Akwasidae to keep the Municipality clean and the enforcement of the sanitation court to prosecute offenders.

For his part, the Deputy Minister asked the NABCO Coordinator Michael Kwadwo Adarkwa how things were going. He mentioned that the New Juaben Municipal Assembly has engaged One Thousand Eight Hundred and Seventy (1,870) trainees. He added that about Seven Hundred and Eighty-Two (782) trainees have not been placed but later assured the public that the affected will be placed.

Mr. Nuertey Ayertey further charged the management of the Assembly to expedite action to make government programmes and policies a fruition. He said the government will not condone with anyone who tries to delay the smooth implementation of any government projects.
