The district, which topped the Upper West Region for four consecutive years in the BECE is currently occupying 67th position nationwide and is poised to do more to rise to the top.

Mr Evans Kpebah, the Wa East District Director of Education who also doubled as the Upper West Regional Education Director disclosed this while taking delivery of 500 pieces of dual desk presented by the District Assembly.

He thanked the Assembly for the support and noted that before the district could realise its ambition of rising to the top ten, the Assembly must continue to help address the challenges confronting education in the district.

“The district has 67 Kindergarten (KG) schools, 75 Primary Schools and 64 Junior High Schools (JHSs) with total enrolment standing at 28,837 pupils and students”, he disclosed.

Mr Kpebah said furniture available to the district was 10,401 and considering the total population, there was a huge gap in the area of furniture.

The Education Director said that the furniture would be distributed equitably among the neediest schools and assured they would be put to good use to help achieve the objective.

Mr Moses Jotie, the Wa East District Chief Executive (DCE) in presenting the furniture, lauded the District Education Directorate and all teachers in the district for the consistent impressive performance in the BECE.

“Despite the deprived nature of the district, placing first in the Upper West Region for four consecutive times and currently occupying 67th position in the country has not only put the district in an enviable position, but has also attracted a lot of attention from stakeholders which is highly commendable”, he said.

He said the Assembly shared in the vision to rise to the top ten best performing districts nationwide and would continue to support the sector for it to realise that vision.

Mr. Jotie said since he took over office in 2017, he had visited almost all 148 communities and the various schools in the district giving him a fair idea of the challenges confronting the education sector in the district.

The DCE said the Assembly had therefore procured 500 dual desks to cater for 1000 pupils at the lower primary level, adding that gradually, the furniture gap would be addressed.

Mr. Jotie noted that good classroom environment would not only help students to learn, but would also motivate the teachers to put in their best to achieve good results.
