Shop owners who litter to be fined and prosecuted-- Minister

As part of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s government to make Accra clean, Sanitation and Water Resources Minister Cecilia Abena Dapaah has indicated to shop owners that if they litter around where they sell they would be either fined or prosecuted.

Sector Minister who paid unannounced visit to Ayawaso Central Sub-Metro had the opportunity to educate some market women on the need to keep their surroundings clean as letters from the Sub-Metro and different Assemblies would be coming round.

On her visit on Wednesday 16th January, 2019 a visit to some shops before heading to the Mallam Atta market, she witnessed chocked gutters with bad stench coming out of them whiles shop owners went about their normal business.

The Minister ensured that shop owners who had rubbish unattended to in front of them were collected whiles she used the opportunity to speak to advice the market women selling along the gutters the need to keep their surroundings clean.

“Dirt we see here was not place here by government, as the blame is usually pushed on government, it is us, I have asked all the Assemblies and Sub-Metros to write to you, I would be back again”.
