BIBIANI: Aluminium Sulphate factory to be established under 1D1F policy
The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality in the Western Region is set to benefit from an Aluminum Sulphate factory under the one district one factory initiative of the government.

This came to light at the just ended 2018 Town Hall Meeting organized by the Municipal Assembly under the auspices of the Ministry of Information in collaboration with the Ministry of Local Government. The Town Hall Meeting forms part of measures by the Ministry of Information to sustain policy interactions with the people

Presenting the programmes and activities of the Municipal Assembly at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive, Alfred Amoah, disclosed that the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council has been given the green light for the establishment of Aluminum Sulphate factory in the Municipality adding that the project is being supported by the Ghana Commercial Bank.

Mr. Alfred Amoah was of the firm belief that the factory when established, would create employment for the teeming unemployed youth in the municipality.

He said the waste products from the Awaso Bauxite Mine would be the main raw material for the factory. He noted that the end product from the factory would be sold to sachet and bottle water producers for water purification.

The MCE further noted that apart from the aluminum Sulphate factory, the Municipal Assembly is also undertaking technical, financial and commercial viability analysis for the establishment of Rice Milling and Oil Palm production factories.

Again the MCE noted that the government has awarded on contract for the construction of a warehouse under the one district, one warehouse policy at Sefwi Bekwai to store the excess food stuffs in the municipality to be used in the lean seasons.

Commenting on the planting for food and jobs initiative in the municipality, Hon. Alfred Amoah revealed that 214 and 1,293 farmers were engaged in rice, tomatoes and maize farming in 2017 and 2018 respectively.

He also added that, mass spraying, mass pruning and cocoa pollination programmes in the municipality employed 3,197 youth, while 2800 direct and indirect jobs were also created under the forest investment and youth in afforestation programmes in 2018.

Touching on the education sector, the MCE said 956 students benefited from the Free Senior School Policy. He named Bibiani Senior High/ Technical, Sefwi Bekwai Senior High, Queens Senior High and Chirano Community Day Senior High as the beneficiary schools in 2016/2018 academic year.

He also revealed that the municipality was ranked first in the 2017 the BECE in the region, saying four students received presidential awards for their exceptional performance in the BECE.

On the measures taken by the Assembly to tackle the ever increasing unemployment situation in the Municipality, Hon, Alfred Amoah said, various skills training programmes have been instituted to make the youth self-employed.

He mentioned skilled training for 20 poultry farmers, 73 fashion designers, 46 soap makers, 14 vegetable farming, 25 master craftsmen in welding and fabrication, 110 supported with loans for trading and startup kids given to 10 graduate apprentices and 26 artisans to set up their own businesses.
