He attributed the cause to increased enrollment levels at various second cycle institutions after the implementation of the free SHS initiative which took effect September, this year. The ‘Free SHS’ policy, according to the government, has increased enrollment to over 90,000 students, who would have otherwise dropped out of school.

The DCE, who made this known when addressing Assembly-members and some Heads of Department at the assembly’s Second Ordinary Meeting, said the situation is not different in the district as enrollment figures have increased in all three (3) Senior High School in the District.

He said the situation has prompted government to put up more structures to coincide with the current enrollment figures and further improve teaching and learning.

He disclosed that the government has also provided students with free exercise books and uniforms as promised under the new educational policy. He urged assembly-members and all Ghanaians to jealously guard the programme in order to help achieve its set objectives.

“This monumental intervention and phenomenal intervention is the greatest of our time and must be jealously guarded” he said.

He eulogized the NPP government under the leadership of President Akufo-Addo for its frantic efforts to make secondary education completely free and accessible to all through the Free SHS policy.
