DCE commissions projects to support education and healthcare delivery

Madam Alele Veronica Heming, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Bole district in the Northern Region has commissioned two projects to support education and healthcare delivery in the area.

The facilities, which include; a 132-bed capacity paediatric ward at the Bole district government hospital and a dining hall at St. Anthony of Padua Senior High/Technical School is aimed at addressing infrastructure challenges as well as enhancing the quality of education and healthcare delivery.

The paediatric ward rehabilitated at a cost of GHS100,000.00 is intended to reduce the incidences of maternal and infant mortality rate, whiles the dining hall facility would serve as an additional infrastructure to support education in the district.

Madam Heming, who spoke at a community durbar to commission the projects, said her outfit would ensure that all infrastructural deficits were addressed, especially improving education and healthcare.

She said the priority of the District Assembly was to ensure the assembly had access to basic social amenities especially in the area of education and healthcare delivery, stressing the need to embark on massive implementation of such projects.

Madam Heming said the district assembly was working to increase the number of educational and healthcare infrastructure as well as completing major projects in the district to improve on the quality of services.

She underscored the need for the planning committee for development of the newly created Savannah Region to consider bestowing on the Bole government hospital the regional hospital considering the infrastructural development of the facility.

Mr David Bakuri Nibaje, the District Health Director said incidents of maternal and infant mortality had been a critical concern to the Ghana Health Service (GES), saying "The rehabilitated ward was a major relief to management of the hospital”.

He said as a result the hospital management was committed to ensuring quality delivery of healthcare services and that the facility for the past two years had not recorded any maternal deaths, including those referred to other health facilities in cases of emergency.

Mr Nibaje lauded the effort of the DCE and the hard working staff of the assembly for the enormous strides at improving healthcare delivery in the district.

Revered Thomas Kipo, Headmaster of the St. Anthony of Padua Senior High/Technical School said the completion of the project was a relief to the school authorities after the project was abandoned due to lack of funds.

He appealed to the DCE to help provide the dining hall with furniture to meet the number of student enrolment saying, “The additional infrastructure would secure the school the better chance of attaining a boarding status”.
