Mampong Municipal to be hub for cashew production – MCE assures
Hon Thomas Appiah Kubi has given the assurance that the production of cashew nuts on large scale in the municipality has come to stay and would soon serve the nation now that the 1 district 1 factory policy was in full force as well as earn us foreign exchange.

The Municipal Chief Executive gave the assurance during a working day visit to Nkwanta in the Municipal where the production was steadily going on to interact with the farmers engaged in the production as well as people who had come to convey some of the seedlings to grow in their farms for free.

According to Hon Thomas Appiah Kubi, the Municipal is expected to cultivate 1000acres of cashew seedlings by the end of the year for individuals and groups of people who would want to engage in cashew nut production .473 acres has been cultivated with 14920 seedlings distributed to farmers, 100 acres are cultivated every week.



He revealed at the gathering that soon Mampong Municipal would be the hub for the production of this economic tree crop that produces apples and nuts which grows very well in the good soils which we have here in Mampong.

“Cashew is very modest in its soil requirements and can adapt itself to varying soil conditions without impairing productivity .Aside its nutritional value, financial gains in terms of major foreign exchange, it also has the capacity to check erosion and so I will encourage every farmer to start developing the idea of venturing into cashew production” the Municipal Chief Executive noted.

The president’s representative hinted that cashew production had tremendous potential in generating additional income for rural folks and as well as rubbing shoulders with top foreign exchange earners like cocoa, gold and the rest therefore there was the need for all stakeholders to take a second look at it.



The Assembly member for Kofiase Electoral Area, Hon Isaac Atta Yeboah who is in charge of the team engaged in the cashew production thanked the Municipal Chief Executive for his personal interest in the cashew growth noted that now most of the youth are working on the cashew farms and many more would be absorbed into the business in the next few months.

He urged on traditional leaders, religious and all stakeholders to come on board to support the Municipal Chief Executive’s dream of making the municipal the future birthplace of cashew.
