His caution is in direct relations to the emergence of the harmattan season, and reminded the people that the season always comes with its perennial problem of bush fires in their communities, that destroys a lot of properties particularly farms.

"In as much as our farmers toil to grow food crops for our daily consumption, the act of bush burning has become a threat to increased productivity. Government also continues to loose several millions of Ghana Cedis as a result of havocs caused to government properties by the act of burning the bush".

The DCE who was addressing the commemoration of the 33rd National farmers' Day held at Uwasi therefore advised the people to be very careful with the way they handle fire during the period of harmattan.

He urged the people to visit the district agriculture directorate for more information on various policy interventions in the agriculture sector, and avail themselves to taking advantage of them including the planting for food and jobs programme that comes with heavily subsidised fertilizer, improved seeds, and agro-chemicals among others.
