The materials included: two gari processing machines which went to two groups of four gari processors, four (4) table top fridges, two (2) laptop computers, fourteen (14) wheel cycles, payment of fees of some members in schools and eleven (11) sewing machines.

Speaking at the ceremony, the DCE recounted the genesis of the persons living with disability fund from which the items were purchased to the wisdom of ex-president Kuffuor who triggered the support to the person living with disability by the state which culminated in the enactment of the persons living with disability Act (Act: 175) with the aim of narrowing the poverty margins of the persons living with disability across the country with 2.5% allocation from the DACF fund to the disability Fund.

He added that the desire of the current Government led by Nana Akuffo Addo to pursue such socially friendly policies led to the increase of the allocation to 3%.

According to him, the fund intends to among others:
• Build the capacity of PWDs in the districts,
• Provide educational support for children, students and trainees with disabilities and
• Support the income generating activities of individual persons with disabilities as a means of economic empowerment.

He mentioned that the 1260 registered members could not all be supported at the same time and that plans were afoot in consultation with the fund management committee to support the next batch of members as soon as new release was available.

He warned the beneficiaries not to abuse the facilities as they were one time support but, take good care of them so they serve the purpose for which they have been provided. He appealed to everybody to consider the concerns of the persons living with disability as the concerns of all so that they shall not be left behind as burden on the society.

The president of the disability group in the area: Hon. Azumah Solomon could not hide his joy as he on behalf of his colleagues hailed the District Assembly for the wonderful cooperation they enjoy from the District Assembly and like 'Oliver Twist', more was his desire.
