DCE call on illegal miners to adhere to Gov’t directives
The District Chief Executive for the Nadowli-Kaleo, Madam Katherine T.Lankono has called on all illegal Miners in the district to adhere to the ban of illegal mining and follow the road map set up by the government.

In March this year on the advice of cabinet, the president has set up a ten member committee on illegal mining to help fight the menace in the country.

President Akufo-Addo indicated during the period of the ban that government given directives to the committee to carry out certain activities to bring sanity into the artisanal gold mining sector.

The DCE made the remarks when she welcomed the inter-ministerial committee led by the minister in charge of chieftaincy and religious affairs Hon. Kofi Dzamesi to Charikpong, a mining community in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region.

The visit was to interact and solicit the support of Chiefs, Queen mothers and other traditional and opinion leaders in the fight against illegal mining, and regular interaction between the inter-ministerial Committee and the small Scale Miners Association to craft a code of practice for small scale operations.

According to the DCE, the government has established a free training programme on mining for people who wants to be licensed and be giving concessions to operate small scale mining in the district.

She said the next training will be in December this year and it is opened to all manner of people who are national and wants to get license to operate gold business.

Applicants are expected to register at the district Assembly and the list will be sent to the inter-ministerial Committee for admission notice, the cost of training, Accommodation and feeding will be taking care by the government.

Hon.Kofi Dzamesi, the minster of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs and member of the inter-ministerial committee assured the illegal miners of the continues fight by government to lift the ban of illegal mining in the country.


He said the president is committed to offering jobs to the people of the country and said, that the mining sector will play a critical role in the fight to get jobs for Ghanaians.

Some of the illegal miners who were present at the meeting called on the sector minister and the DCE to call Azumah Resources who are currently prospecting to order, they said Azumah Resources has claimed to be prospecting but they think they are rather doing illegal mining.

They expressed their happiness to the government and promised to adhere to the directives of the government
