KETU N: DCE welcomes elevation of district to Municipal

District Chief Executive for the Ketu North District in the Volta region, Anthony Avorgbedor has welcomed decision by government to elevate the Ketu North District to a municipal status.

According to him the district stands united at the decision, adding that not all individuals will want it that way but majority of the people are delighted by the announcement.

Speaking with Ghanadistricts.com, he added that the decision is a welcoming one considering the added advantages associated with such elevation and they are looking forward to the finality of it since the Minister has presented LI to parliament to that effect.

Mr. Avorgbedor said they are ready to embrace the new status as soon as the LIs presented to parliament mature.

Government through the Local Government and Rural Development Ministry on November 16, 2017 presented Legislative Instrument (LI) to Parliament, for the creation of 38 new districts and municipal assemblies and elevation of 28 existing Districts to Municipal status.

The LI will give legal backing to the new districts and municipalities as well as those elevated.

According to the Local Government Minister who is also Member of Parliament for Nalerigu/Gambaga, the move is to deepen Ghana’s democratic processes as well as the decentralization system.
