The exercise which is expected to start on Wednesday October 17, will be under the theme “measles and rubella kill, vaccinate your child now for good life”.

Six suspected cases of measles have been confirmed in the municipality so far this year.

At a preparatory meeting involving stakeholders, the municipal director of health Mr. Jacob Munukpa said the 8 day exercise will target children between 9-59 months adding that designated posts will be set up throughout the municipality to complement existing health facilities while immunization teams will visit schools to ensure maximum coverage.

He said irrespective of whether the affected children have received the measles-rubella dose in previous exercises, parents must make them available for vaccination against the disease which has reddish eyes and body rashes as the main symptoms.

Mr. Munukpa said affected children will also be given vitamin A capsules which protects them and makes them strong.

The field announcement is being complemented by radio talk shows and announcements on community information centers.
