According to him, proper measures have already been rolled out by the Assembly to help realize this vision.

“When I assumed office, Gomoa West was at the bottom of the district league table in terms of the districts in central region, so we put measures in place and by end of 2018 we were at 8th position. We know that the President wants to make Accra the cleanest city in Africa, so we are challenging the vision of the President", the DCE added.

The DCE, who stated this when speaking on issues concerning Ghana’s worsening sanitation challenges, also pushed for positive attitudinal change on how citizens must manage their domestic waste to help realize the President’s vision of making Accra and Ghana for that matter, the cleanest in Africa.

“It is about time we also looked at our attitudes, Chief Executives thrive to do the right things and you would have people, ordinary Ghanaians also trying to do otherwise and not wanting to follow through what our bye-laws expect of us”, he added.

He thus called for all hands on deck to help mitigate the sanitation situation that the country is currently being faced with.

Touching revenue generation, Mr Nkum again noted that, Assemblies in the rural areas usually rely heavily on central government for funds to run their day-to-day activities, adding that Gomoa West for instance, generates only 20 percent its expected revenue from the district.

He added that the Assembly’s Internal Generated funds (IGF) is mobilized through funds received from business operating permit fees, market tolls, lorry packs and property rates, thus, making it extremely difficult to generate enough to fund its numerous projects.
