Techiman Catholic Diocese Holds Town Hall Meeting
The Justice and Peace Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Techiman in the Kintampo Municipality has held a Town Hall Meeting as plans are being put in place to ensure peace before, during and after the December 7 general elections.

The event, which was under the theme; “Role of Parliament, Local Authorities and Participatory Governance for Community Development was aimed at educating the nation on our constitutional, Democracy and citizens participation for accelerated development at the local level.

In his keynote address, Rev. Father John underscored the importance of the event, adding that the church sakes the welfare, socio-economic development of every Ghanaians citizen and therefore cannot be indifferent to issues of governance.


He further described the meeting as one that seeks to deepen the democratic process by knowing “the role of parliament, Local Authority and ensure participatory governance for community development”.

He added that the meeting had helped create equal platform for electorates to meet and interact with parliamentary aspirants to know their competence, manifestos, dreams and vision for the constituency.


On his part, Naa Thaddeus Zaasan, the Municipal Coordinating Director (MCD) for Kintampo North in his Keynote address stated that, the development of the community is not the sole responsibility of the Member of Parliament but a collective one.

He mentioned that the role and responsibility of Members of Parliament include representation of constituency in Parliament, to partake in legislation benefit of your constituency and country, to provide constituency services, among others.


He concluded by calling on all to understand the roles of members of parliaments, local authority and stakeholders.

Meanwhile, each parliamentary candidate was also given the opportunity to present their manifesto and vision for the constituency.
