Asokore Mampong celebrates 33rd farmers day
The Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly as part of the celebration of the 33rd farmers' day held at Aboabo post office School Park, crowned a 43 year old Amadu Gariba as the municipal best farmer.

He took home a refrigerator, 6 machetes, a wheel barrow and a full piece of cloth.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Mr. Alidu Seidu noted that the farmers' day was instituted by government to honour the hardworking farmers who produce food to feed the nation.
In this regard the MCE pointed out that programmes, interventions and opportunities have been put in place by the government to sustain agriculture so as to improve the living standards of Ghanaian farmers.
According to him there are potentials in the municipality for improved and sustain agriculture production including;
* presence of perennial water bodies for irrigation and domestic water supply
* adequate rainfall amount and even distribution
*suitable soil for cultivation of wide variety of food and favourable weather conditions for animal rearing.
*potential labour force
*presence of NGOs and developmental organisations.
These conditions should encourage a lot more people to venture into the sector. Additionally, he noted, government has introduced a number of interventions in the agriculture sector particularly the “Planting for Food and Jobs” initiative and urged the youth to take advantage of these opportunities and initiatives, emphasizing that all farmers should join associations to enable them stay abreast of new developments in their occupation.
He also called on all stakeholders along the agricultural value chain to take advantage of the flagship programme of government by taking the initiative to promote effective and efficient maximum holder crop farming, livestock and fish farming.
A free health screening and HIV/AIDS testing event which also marks world's AIDS Day which falls on 1st December every year, was the climax for the day
