About 92 per cent of the targeted population in the District have so far been vaccinated, since the exercise expected to end on Tuesday December 4, started on Wednesday November 28.

Health officials have vaccinated more than 9,544 out of the total targeted population of 10,610 when the GNA visited the six vaccination points in the District on Monday.

In an interview with the GNA, Madam Ellen Danso, a Supervisor of Ghana Health Service (GHS) for Fiapre Sub-District, expressed satisfaction about the turnout and expressed the hope that the exercise would achieve 100 per cent success.

She said so far the exercise has not encountered any challenge as there were enough yellow fever doses and vaccination equipment.

Madam Danso expressed appreciation to the media for intensified publicity on the exercise and commended beneficiaries for their comportment at the vaccination points.

Mr Atta Kwadwo, a beneficiary resident of Fiapre, said the exercise was laudable and expressed the optimism that it would benefit all Ghanaians.

Yellow fever is a viral disease transmitted by a bite from infected mosquitoes mainly Aedes egyptia – a type of mosquito which breeds in the little water collected in the axils of leaves (plantain and banana leaves).

The Ghana Health Service (GHS) with support from GAVI, a global vaccine alliance is expected to vaccinate about 5,364,272 people against yellow fever in 65 Districts in the country during this year’s yellow fever campaign.
