Unfortunately, the unreliable rainfall patterns have over the years hampers continues farming activities throughout the year, hence the need for measures to promote irrigation farming.

It is light of this that the Talensi District Assembly with support from the Ghana Social Opportunity Programme (GSOP) rehabilitated the Baare Dam to expand it and ensure it can retain more water.

Rehabilitation of the dam is geared among other things to promote dry season irrigation farming to boost and sustain the economy of farmers in the area.
Usually, residents engage in the production of vegetables like tomatoes, okro, cabbage, pepper, onion among others.

The project also ensures that residents have water for their animals and other activities at all times.

The success of this also means that most people particularly the youth who for lack of jobs rush to the south in search of jobs would stay back home to focus on their farming activities knowing they can rely on the dam to ensure progress of their farming business.

The Ghana Social Opportunities Project (GSOP) is an initiative set up to promote the creation of job opportunities for enhanced welfare of citizens in selected District Assemblies across the country.
